Experience

Much of my professional experience has been spent in-house in the entertainment industry -- learning the inner workings of the music, television, video and online/mobile worlds.

At BMG International, I worked with an incredible team of talented executives around the world signing superstar artists, buying and selling catalogs and companies, and negotiating sophisticated licenses and distribution agreements, some of which were among the largest in the history of the business.

After going into private practice in 2000, I have represented...

...the major content owners -- Sony in setting up its first online venture in partnership with Universal, and EMI in negotiating its first agreement with Apple for the iTunes Music Store.

...online and mobile distributors who drew on my industry and copyright experience to establish lincensing relationships with the content industries.

...Gracenote in its landmark digital lyrics licensing program which enabled music publishers to monetize lyrics for the first time.

...FremantleMedia for transactions regarding its television productions.

...Goldman Sachs, and many entertainment companies, serving as their special entertainment counsel to handle sophisticated due diligence and acquisitions.

Through it all, I have also maintained a traditional entertainment practice in music, television, film and theatre.

I was elected the first US President of the International Association of Entertainment Lawyers and continue to serve in this capacity.

The entertainment industry has never been more challenging, both legally and as a business -- Liebenson Law looks forward to confronting these challenges along with our clients.
